Vent Pipe ID
I replaced the original 85608 Vent Pipe in my older model Presto 0178004 canner,
when i found the original had a slightly larger hole ID (approx .13" ID)
compared to a newly purchased 85608 (approx .125" ID).
(I have a newer model Presto 0178107 as backup, which tipped me off to the Vent
Pipe ID difference.)
Although both new and old Vent Pipes have the same number,
the older one (.13" ID) gave slightly lower pressure regulation points than the
new one (.125" ID).
I have no idea what caused the different Vent Pipe ID's in my canners,
but other YouTube videos on this topic might show this difference as well ?
Again, It is important to measure, record and save your own pressures
wrt weights for later reference.
Do NOT trust or use other people's readings.
All my canners (and videos) now use the newer 85608 .125" ID Vent
Pipe.

DIY PSI Increase Copper Wire Method
A DIY method of increasing the PSI is to use solid copper wire wrapped around
the regulator body.
The increase in wire weight corresponds to an increase in PSI.
1 foot of bare solid 14 AWG copper wire will give about 1 PSI increase.
Values in the table below are calculated from nominal values and might not be
accurate in all cases
As always, verify everything using your own scale and pressure tests etc.
Copper wire lengths required for PSI increase
Solid Copper Wire | lbs / | grams / | cm / | cm / | |
Gauge | OD inch | 1000 ft | cm | 1 PSI | 1/2 PSI |
18 | 0.04 | 4.92 | 0.0732 | 75.9 | 38.0 |
16 | 0.051 | 7.82 | 0.1164 | 47.8 | 23.9 |
14 | 0.064 | 12.4 | 0.1845 | 30.1 | 15.1 |
12 | 0.081 | 19.8 | 0.2947 | 18.9 | 9.4 |

grams = 1 PSI)
Bare Solid Copper wire stripped from house wiring
note: Canadian 14/2 copper electrical wire will have at least two strands of 14
AWG.
Double check gauge using a caliper and weight scale, as the bare gnd (3rd wire)
could be 16 AWG.
