Waxed Jute Tinder Tube for Ferrocerium Rod (or BIC) fire starting.
Push (or "twist") Jute out of copper tube about 2 cm.
Ruffle Jute, then spark with a ferro rod.
One or two strikes gives a good flame,
no need for blowing, birds nests or intermediate tinder.
Gives a long lasting match for difficult conditions,
also saving your precious primary fire starting device.
1" or so of waxed jute cut from roll is useful as fire starter.
Waxed Jute is easily renewed from local supplies and resources DIY.
This waxed Jute tinder tube method is among the best ways
I have found to produce flame from Ferro rods.
No need for char cloth or intermediate tinder. Easily held with your fingers.
Flame size can be adjusted, put out easily or moved around.
Copper tube is cut to fit a standard sized Altoids tin.
Remove the jute to use as a blow tube. Keep your distance from the flame,
no need to burn yourself trying to blow on your fire.
Copper tube ends are ground and sanded to remove sharpest edges.
Copper is anti-microbial, killing even antibiotic resistant bacteria,
on dry contact, within minutes.
Other uses for copper include disinfecting drinking water etc. (Remove wax
coating)
Far superior to Stainless or Glass in this particular application.
The dark "tarnish" or patina on copper enhances the anti-microbial effect.
Copper & Brass are used in hospitals etc. for "touch surfaces".
